First aid tips

  • First aid for superficial burns

    - For superficial burns, the skin is red, slightly swollen, and painful.
    - Cool the burn as quickly as possible with cool running water until the pain eases.
    - Do not apply creams, oil, or margarine when giving first aid.
    - Advise the victim to see a doctor immediately.

  • First aid for skin injuries

If you notice the victim has an open skin wound (graze or cut)

    1. Avoid contact with the victim’s blood or other bodily fluids. If the wound is not bleeding heavily, wash your hands before giving first aid.
    2. Rinse the wound under the tap with cold water.
    3. The stream of water should run directly onto the wound to remove impurities.
    4. Do not scrub the wound to clean it.
    5. Cover the wound with a sterile dressing. If you don’t have dressings, use a piece of clean, dry fabric.
    7. Advise the victim to see a doctor.

  • First Aid for Asthma Attack

If you notice that the victim has a runny nose, is sneezing, has watery eyes, and a dry, irritating cough, and is known to have bronchial asthma:
    1. Sit them up to make breathing easier.
    2. Give a short-acting asthma medication (inhaler or nebulizer).
    3. Call for medical help.
